The word "Robot" was once synonymous with creatures made in the image of man - humanoids. In recent years the science of robotics has broadened perception of robotic "form", but advances by Honda look likely to again raise humanoids' profile. Honda celebrated its 25th year on the New York Stock Exchange listing by having Asimo ring the bell to open trading, heralding a new era of robot awareness. Honda's goal is to create a human like helper for the home and after 16 years development, Asimo is now available on a rental basis. Initially, Asimo will be restricted to a PR role in reception areas and at functions where he can demonstrate his quite remarkable ablities to move freely in 3D space and respond intelligently to voice commamds. Asimo os very smart. He costs 2 million yen per day to hire - that's AUS$29,000 a day. For more information on Asimo, email Hondapr@honda.com.au
