September 23, 2005 NEC this week launched the world's thinnest fold-type mobile phone onto the Hong Kong market and will follow shortly with introductions into Italy, Russia, Australia and China. The phone is very reminiscent of the trend-setting Motorola Razr with its thin clam-shell design. It boasts slim measurements of 47.9mm (width) X 101.5mm (height) X 11.9mm (depth; when folded) and a weight of 96g. Supporting mobile-internet and GSM/GPRS, it is equipped with a 1.9 inch 65,000 colour display in addition to a 1.3 mega pixel camera. The sub-screen with an organic light emitting display is convenient for scrolling text messages. NEC Fuel cell laptop to go on sale this year

October 29, 2004 Japanese electronics company NEC has shown the latest prototype of a laptop with built-in fuel cell, claiming the prototype has 10 hours life, extending the life of the traditional battery powered laptop by up to 50%.
Early versions of the NEC fuel cell laptop have been shown several times over the last two years, but this time the company intends to put a fuel cell laptop on the market in Japan before the end of 2004.
Whatsmore, NEC expects that the efficiency of the fuel cell can be boosted to increase "battery life" to more than 40 hours between refills by 2006. Read More

The language barrier which exists between massive groups of the world population went one step closer to elimination when NEC Corporation and NEC Personal Products announced the development of an automatic speech-to-speech Travel Interpreter (Japanese-English/English-Japanese) recently. The Travel Interpreter incorporates several NEC technologies - speech recognition, conversation-based speech translation and speech synthesis technology and achieves high-speed speech translation of approximately one second per Japanese sentence spoken. In essence, this means that a traveller speaking only English can converse with someone who speaks only Japanese via NEC's PDA-based translator. Read More
